History of the Blue Mill Meadows Herdsires
Here are the herdsires and bulls that we have used in our herd since 2006.
We bought our first miniature Jersey, Dolly, in 2006 and selected miniature Jersey bull semen. We continued to AI our cows through 2015 using semen from miniature Jersey bulls and from short-statured New Zealand Jersey bulls. In 2015 we switched to natural service using the bulls raised here at Blue Mill Meadows as herdsires. In 2022 and 2023 we AI’d some of our cows with semen from miniature Jersey bulls.

Riverview Gene
2006-2008
In 2006 we used semen from the popular miniature Jersey bull, Riverview Gene, to artificially inseminate our first miniature Jersey cow, Dolly, and she had Molly in 2007. In 2008 we again used Riverview Gene semen on Dolly and she had Gingersnap in 2009.
In 2014 we used semen from the miniature Jersey bull, DC Taylor’s Alpha and got the bulls, Maximus and Titus, and the heifers, Clara and Pearl.

In 2012 we used semen from the short-statured New Zealand bull, Hawthorne Grove Zeus, to AI Molly and Gingersnap and they had Merry and May in 2013.

In 2015 we used semen from the short New Zealand bull, Hillstar Terrific 5-Star, and got Goldstar.

In 2015 and 2016 we used our bull Rupert on five cows and got Rudy, Ruthie and Ruby in 2016 and Eden and Julius in 2017.

Our bull, Titus, gave us Lucius and Topaz in 2017, and our bull Maximus gave us the heifers, Opal and Amethyst in 2018.

In 2018 we again used Goldstar as a herdsire as well as Rudy and Lucius. Through Goldstar we got Gold Dust and Gold Nugget. Rudy gave us Skye, Emerald and Reuben. Lucius gave us Lucy and Diamond.
In 2019 Lucius was sold to a farm in NC and Rudy and Gold Dust to a farm in Wi.

Terrific sired Sapphire, Heather, Magnolia and Ginseng.
